Last year we did a six-week adventure in northern British Columbia to tiny little spots in the middle of nowhere where you feel like nobody’s ever even been.
Kelly was born and raised in Cochrane, Ontario, the only daughter in a family of four kids. Although her father hunted, it was a male-only sport. When she met her husband 20 years ago, he was an avid hunter who open the door for her participation.
At the age of 25, life threw her a huge curveball when she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). Since then, being out in nature has been her savior, and the primary means of managing her symptoms. In 2017, she and her husband moved to BC, specifically for the hunting and fishing, and the ability to live more fully off the land.
Throughout the years, she’s been a huge inspiration to her family and friends, empowering not only herself but many others as well, with her grit and determination to live life to the full. She has successfully hunted solo for moose, guided for black bear, and she and her husband engage frequently in fly-in (remote) hunting.
“This crazy COVID year has been incredibly stressful, especially with the added pain of losing my sister-in-law in a freak accident at the age of 33. Getting out into nature and living off the land has been a complete mental and physical reset and has put me back together again. Being outside, sleeping in a tent, and carrying my 70lb pound pack across mountain ranges has been my saving grace.”
