Region 4 – Kootenays (Southern)

Region 4 – Kootenays (Southern) are in the south-eastern corner of the province, bordering Alberta to the east, and the U.S. to the south. It is nestled in the Rocky Mountains and is renowned for its high concentration and variety of big game species. This region encompasses the upper drainage basin of the Kootenay river in the Rock Mountains down to the Flathead River basin, and from Purcell mountains to the Alberta border including the Rocky Mountain trench.

The game species in region 4 – Kootenays (Southern) include rocky mountain elk, mountain goat, rocky mountain bighorn sheep, black bear, mule deer, white tailed deer, Shiras moose, Canada lynx and cougar.
