The Annual award will be presented to a deserving guide in March 2009. He or she will be selected by a special committee from the nominations submitted.

The Committee will be looking for those qualities and traits in a guide that helped make your hunting trip in 2008 a special and memorable experience.

A LETTER FROM THE 2008 LELAND AWARD WINNER
Just thought I would drop a quick note to thank the GOABC for selecting me as this year's recipient of the Leland Award. It is a true honour to receive this award, and it is one that will be cherished. The bronze sculpture is incredible and will be displayed proudly at my home in Smithers. Having known Leland, this award is particularly special to me. I'm sorry I missed this year's convention, but my wife was due with our second child at around the same time. We had a baby girl a few days ago, Cassidy Jade Collingwood.

There are so many great guides out there, many of whom I admire for their hard work and exceptional skill. They are also very deserving of recognition for their professionalism and accomplishments. I can't emphasize enough the importance of acknowledging all of the guides/cooks/wranglers who work in the guiding industry. Most do it for the lifestyle and experience, and now more than ever, in the competitive job market, it is going to get tougher to find and keep good employees. I feel that if GOABC and their outfitters can involve the guides in all aspects of the industry, it will help keep interest levels high, and motivate guides. The local guides awards, as well as the Leland Award are greatly appreciated.

I would especially like to thank Rick Taylor, Mones and Associates, Pacific Diesel Allison, and the Seattle Sportsmen's Conservation Foundation for their donations. Their generosity does not go unnoticed, and is greatly appreciated and ranks high amongst the guides.

Thank you. Clayton Collingwood.
